I’m
25 years old and originally from Plymouth, in Devon. I became
the main presenter of Room 785 this January – although
sharp-eyed viewers may recognise me from Box Office Boys,
where I have spent the last two years as the show’s
roving red-carpet reporter – interviewing some of Hollywood’s
biggest stars. I’m also currently the face of Finger
Tips, the fun-filled make-and-do show.
Growing up in the Westcountry, surrounded by breathtaking
scenery and wildlife, I quickly developed a passion for the
great outdoors and natural history – drawing inspiration
from my Mum and Dad who were a Marine Biologist and Molecular
Geneticist respectively.
At a young age I began indulging these passions, regularly
kayaking, surfing, sailing, caving and rock-climbing. I then
began making natural history documentaries about the nocturnal
wildlife that visited my garden’s compost heap each
night – using infra-red cameras, some modified domestic
security lights and my dad’s camcorder!
Over time, I began to hone my presenting skills, initially
through impersonating David Attenborough – staring in
my own short-films about foxes, badgers, hedgehogs and a plethora
of other weird and wonderful creatures that I kept as pets,
including Honey-bees, Kestrels, Peregrine Falcons, Horses,
Ducks, Guinea Pigs, Doves, and an oil-drenched Guillimot!
Nowadays, I still love animals and have three pet Harvest
Mice.
Another of my many passions as a youngster was magic. I used
to spend hours and hours perfecting the latest card tricks
and soon became a member of The Magic Circle, where my nifty
fingers and slight of hand led to international competition
success. The media-attention that followed led to me landing
a regular presenting gig with The Disney Channel, when I was
just 14 years old. I have been presenting ever since and have
also worked extensively behind the camera in a production
capacity.
When I’m not presenting I enjoy travelling, going to
the gym, playing the guitar and singing. I love music and
going to live gigs and festivals. My house is full of modern
art – yet another of my many obsessions.
Q & A:
What was your favourite subject as a kid?
My favourite subjects at school were always English Literature,
Drama and Art. My English teacher Mrs Shaw was brilliant.
I hated maths and geography... but now that I'm older and
I've done a fair bit of travelling I think that I would probably
enjoy geography a lot more. Strangely I quite enjoy maths
now too!
And what's your favourite item of clothing?
I'm going through a bit of a hat phase at the moment... although
they normally make me look like a bit of an idiot! I love
nice jeans too.
What’s your favourite meal?
I've just started to really get into cooking - so I'm trying
to expand my repertoire of dishes. I love Italian food...
just simple, beautifully blended ingredients. I can make some
quite tasty seafood pasta dishes... a delicious Thai green
chicken curry... and a nice salmon and potato soup which I
had when I went to Lapland last year. I really enjoy tasting
new food when I go abroad and getting new ideas. Friday night
is Indian night in my house... you can't beat a chicken passander.
And your worst meal?
I once ordered a seafood dish when I was in Sicily and when
the waiter brought the food to my table I realised that the
massive fish still had it's eyes, scales and internal organs
in place... it made me feel really sick! I also once ate lobster
brain when I was in Formentara... but that didn't taste too
bad.
What did you want to be when you were five?
I wanted to be a Diver and a Bank Manager. Then I wanted to
be a News Reader!
