Two
more Big Salute events took place in Cyprus over the weekend of
12th & 13th July.
On Friday we held a "Back
To Skool" disco at the Woodstock Sports Bar in Episkopi Village,
raising 673 Euros - as you can see from the attached pics everyone
had a great time! Ian Noakes and Richard Hatch were DJs for the
night.
Then
on Saturday night we had our first ever Catamaran Cruise from the
Eastern Sovereign Base Area, courtesy of Relax Cruises, and this
event raised 670 Euros.
Chris Pearson and Neil
Skinner did the honours on the decks.

Radio Falkland Islands
BFBS
Falkland Islands launched the Big Salute Canoe Race across the local
water sports area, Gull Island Pond. A whole host of people from
different sections took part in the event, being told by the Chief
of Staff to be as dirty as possible! The fun started and people
really did get into the spirit of dirty tactics with Canoe barging
and oar slapping!
Fancy dress was also a must, and people really did get into the
spirt of things, with the guys from Log Support dressed in fetching
Toga's being the overall winners. Everybody really enjoyed themselves
and the day raised a substantial amount for the Big Salute.
The Big Salute Big Night
Out took place in the Gull & Penguin on a very busy Saturday
night in MPA. Firstly local Mount Pleasant band 'Bob's Dad &
Tyrone' took to the stage, wooing the crowd with their acoustic
covers of classic and modern music. The crowd loved it and it built
up the atmosphere for the main event; 'The Fighting Pig Band'.
The
Fighting Pig Band are a local set-up that normally play their gigs
at the 'Trough' in Stanley. However on this occasion, and specially
for the Big Salute, they gave their services for free and played
their first gig on MPA. Everybody had a wicked time, and there was
much drunken messy shapes being thrown on the dance floor!

On
the weekend of Friday 11th - Sunday 13th April The Marco Polo Bar
in Larnaca held a Beer and Cider Festival - there was lots of fun
and games for all the family including face painting, live music,
raffle and competitions.
A huge thanks to John
and his staff and of course to the customers who dug deep and raised
a fantastic 1000 euros for The Big Salute.
There's lots more 'events' coming up including
the Akrotiri Water Ski Club Open Day on Monday 4th May and a Quiz
Night at the Woodstock Sports Bar in Episkopi on Wednesday 21st
May. Hope to see you there! |

BFBS Gibraltar's already
kicked off our Big Salute Forces fundraiser campaign for 2008, with
events on The Rock and along the Costa.
In early March, the sun
was shining on our Golf Day at Estepona, when nearly 80 players
had a shot at our Texas Four Ball Scramble. With the money paid
on the day, and the prize raffle (the golfers were literally queuing
up to buy tickets!), we raised over 3,000 Euros - a great start
to the BFBS Big Salute.
2 weeks later, we were
at the Bak 2 Skool Nite at the Lion Bar in Europa, playing party
games and pulling pigtails, dancing well into the night with our
classic school day tunes. The Paper, Scissors, Stone Challenge and
Spoon Game went down a treat, and everyone there was happy to dig
deep and cough up their coppers for Forces charities.
If you're interested in getting involved
to help us raise money for Forces charities while you're here in
the Rock, pop into BFBS in Rooke, or call our reception desk on
200 5 5389. |
