Wrist bands just £2 from BFBS on Rockhopper Road BFBS Radio and TV worldwide have started the first annual Big Salute.  With special programmes on BFBS Television, radio and on the web at bfbs.com/bigsalute there are many ways to show your support.

All monies raised will be distributed to these Forces Realated Charities:

BLESMA – British Limbless Ex-Service Mane's Association

Combat Stress – Helping veterans with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder

Headley Court – Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre

St Dunstan's – Support of Blind Ex – servicemen and women

Veterans' Aid – Supporting homeless ex-servicemen and women in the UK

On Air Auction Raises £8000

Friday 9th May

All day you bidded for some amazing items up for grabs from generous supporters from the civilian community as well as some 'money just can't buy' items from MPC. 

The BIG Salute cake from Oasis raised £110 Sophia Clausen of Stanley bought this amazing BIG Salute cake made the the Oasis of MPA for £110.  Happy eating Sophia, and we guess that diets gone down the pan!  Thanks for supporting the BIG Salute.

 

Big Salute Canoe Race

Saturday 10th May

Ramming speed...only after the Cheif of Staff ordered teams to get wet! 16 teams from all over MPC competed in a canoe relay across Gull Island Pond.  With all the teams in fancy dress, the Falklands sun shining, food and a warm drink for spectators and competitors the event was superbly attended.  Congratulations to the Senior Sappers, winners of the event.
The real winner though was the BIG Salute.  Teams each paid £25 for the privilege of getting cold and wet, plus there was stacks os sponsorship of the teams from their respective sections and units.  A quick count and it looks like another £2000 is going towards the BIG Salute. Big Salute - BIG Night Out

Saturday 10th May - Gull & Penguin, MPC

The Fighting Pig Band at the Gull & Penguin for the BIG Salute

The BFBS Radio team throw down some top tunes and welcomed the Falklands one and only Fighting Pig Band Live!

In front of a packed crowd of 400 the band, who played for free, played a belting 2 hour set all for the BIG Salute.

Big Salute Victory Bar Night, Stanley

Saturday 17th May

Bobs' Dad & Tyrone play the Vic in town

The Big Salute comes to Stanley on Saturday night..to the renowned Victory Bar.

Matt Jagger, Jessie Aru & Dave Simon will be playing some top tunes on the decks plus there's a live acoustic set from the one and only 'Bobs' Dad & Tyrone'.

They'll be a prize draw, stacks of fun and your minimum donation of £2 on the door would be appreciated towards the BIG Salute appeal.

Don't miss it, but hurry, we understand rooms at Hillside camp are filling fast!

Med. Centre (MPC)
The Med Centre will be closed for routine every Thursday between 2.00pm – 4.00pm for Trade training. Urgent enquiries only to be dealt with during this period.

Lighthouse Seaman’s Centre – New Opening Hours

New opening hours from Tuesday 7th April 2008 and timings are as follows:
Centre open to Seafarers:
Tuesday 12 noon – 4pm & 6 – 9pm.
Wednesday, Thursday & Friday 9am – 4pm & 6pm – 9pm.
Saturday & Sunday 11am – 4pm & 6pm – 9pm.
Monday 6pm – 9pm (if possible)
Café opening hours to public:
Wednesday, Thursday & Friday 10am – 4pm
Saturday & Sunday 12 noon – 4pm.
Please note that the hot food orders taken until 3pm.


Are you a Qualified Teacher?

There are occasions when the schools in Stanley need supply teachers for both Primary and secondary Education. If you are interested please contact The Director of Education, Barbara Booth on 27289.

Music Club
You can join The Music Club for £10, which will give you access to the club anytime to practice guitar or other instruments.

Visual Arts Classes - Tuesday Evenings
If you’d like to explore your creative side why not come along to the JEC for a Visual Arts Class. All levels of experience are welcome. Tuesday evenings from 7.00pm – 9.00pm.

Computer courses and hopefully much, more.
Classes are subject to a minimum number of people attending and will not run if there is insufficient interest. Also if you have a skill that you could teach to others, the JEC are always looking for instructors to take courses.

Mare Harbour Boat Trips
Taking up to 20 personnel for 2 hours! You might be lucky enough to see the dolphins swimming around the boat. Remember you’ll need warm, waterproof clothing. To sign go to

Hive Opening Times
The Hive Information office is now open on Tuesday’s only between 7.30am – 1.30pm and 4.00pm – 6.00pm.

Paintball
The MPC paintball site is now fully up and running again. Bookings are usually taken for Saturdays and Sundays and costs £15. Call PO Dusty Millar ext 6554 or CPO Ben Edmonds on ext 6242 to book.

Sport

Netball – Mondays at MPC
If you fancy playing netball, whether you’re a novice or a Pro, why not come along on Monday evenings to the Old Gym at 7 p.m..

Bookings for Gym Classes
All bookings for Gym classes such as Spinning, Boxercise, Core Stability (or a squash court) are to be processed through the Gym Admin Assistant (Phillipe or Lesley) on Ext. 3107.

Gym Opening times – Changed
Mon – Fri 6.00am – 10.00pm
Sat/Sun 8.00am – 10.00pm
It is no longer be possible to sign out keys from 12 FAC outside of normal gym times. Enquiries to P EdO on 3165.

MPC Swimming Lessons
Captain Amy Cruickshank is a qualified swimming instructor and would like to teach personnel to swim. Anyone interested iin tuition on a Monday evening - contact her on ext 6471.

Additional Circuit Training Sessions

Friday’s 12.00-13.00
This additional circuit training session will be run in the new gym, and if popular, will become part of the weekly sessions. 10 personnel required to ensure it takes place.

Calling all Footballers!
MPA want to establish a squad to play visiting RN vessels.

Training will be in the New Gym on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 1900 and 2000. Call LPT Buffery on 3167.

Falkland Islands Sub-Aqua Club
Meeting every Tuesday and Thursday between 7.00pm and 9.00pm, this is an active and social club. Located between the new gym and the swimming pool at MPC.

All equipment is supplied, so if you want to do a ‘try-dive’ or if you are a qualified diver please get in touch with: WO Tom Spalding on ext 6020.

Basketball in the New Gym
Every Sunday from 4.00pm – 5.00pm. All welcome. For information call ext 3167.
