Hurricane Festival 2008

The crowd go crazy at the Hurricane Festival

Our Memories of Hurricane 2008

The Hurricane Festival 2008 will be remembered for many things by many people. For the BFBS crew who braodcast live backstage, it will be the guests, the heat, the banter, the noodles and a man called Jedi.

We were fortunate to have met a lot of the artists this year and everyone of them came with a friendly attitude. Many of them had heartfelt messages for the British Forces around the world.

Maximo Park were interviewed by Mark & Charlene and in a stroke of radio genius they were invited to make the best use of a child's saxophone, a pair of maracas and a tambourine. It's a testament to their musicianship that they not only held a note but busked with about 1.50 euro worth of tat!

The Foo Fighters were the band most people wanted to see and by chance their tour buses were parked up right next to the BFBS bus. This sent the girls and boys into a frenzy of anticipation. Although we didn't manage to get an interview, Dave Grohl proved that he is indeed the nicest man in rock by getting his photo taken with us.

Radiohead finished off the weekend on Sunday night and they are notoriously shy and we never stood a chance of a chat but most of us did get a guided tour of their bus, for sheer opulence and luxury it was hard to beat.

As with most things it the people you remember. There were plenty of ex-forces faces over the weekend, many of them were the tour bus drivers.

So all in all a weekend of working hard and equally playing hard. Let's hope BFBS can be back there again next year!

Hurricane 2008

BFBS Radio presented a Hurricane Festival Special live from backstage at the event.

You can run but you can't hide

There was no hiding for International Noise Conspiracy as they lived up to their name with the colour of suits - how loud? - looks like they've come straight from the Austin Powers film set
