2 Bn REME, Fallingbostel -School Sports Day

The BFBS team couldn't believe their luck when they were asked if they wanted to join in the fun. A lovely afternoon out of the Studio, eating ice-cream and wondering around aimlessly, wrong! They were tasked to sell as many bingo tickets as possible.

There was definitely no age discrimination with this event - young and old entered and looked to be enjoying themselves!

The Big Kids love the egg and spoon race too!

2 Bn REME in Fallingbostel held a School Sports Day and raised over 1600 euro. All proceeds went to The Big Salute. Thank You.

Ant receives a big cheque from Hohne Golf Club

Ant and Row were invited along to the Hohne Golf Club to receive a cheque for 638 euro on behalf of The Big Salute from Paul Davis, Club Competition Secretary and John Duncan, Restaurant Manager.

The High Falutin' Big Saluting Shooter

1/2 Shot Grenadine Syrup

1/2 Shot Blue Bols Curacao

3/4 Shot Lime Vodka

Glass: Shot

Method: Layer in the glass by carefully pouring the ingrdients in the order above.

Comment: This red, white and blue striped drink is tricky to make but fun to try. It'll sort out the Tom Cruises from the Booze Cruisers behind the bar!

One for the Army - Muddy Water

1 Shot Absolut Vodka

1 Shot Kahlua Coffee Liqueur

1 Shot Baileys Irish Cream Liqueur

Glass: Rocks

Garnish: Float 3 Coffee Beans

Method: Shake ingredients with ice and strain into ice-filled glass

Comment: A coffee and whiskey cream with a bit of a kick - fill your boots!

One for the RAF - Typhoon

1 Shot Plymouth Gin

1 Shot White Sambuca

1/2 Shot Rose's Lime Cordial

Glass: Rocks

Method: Stir ingredients with ice and strain into ice filled glass

Comment: Great if you like Sambuca - watch out for the afterburn!

One for the Navy - Navy Grog

1 1/2 Shots Navy Rum

3 Spoons Runny Honey

1/4 Shot Freshly squeezed lime juice

2 dashes Angostura aromatic bitters

Glass: Old Fashioned

Garnish: Lemon Wedges

Method: Stir honey with rum in base of shaker until honey dissolves. Add lime juice, water and bitters, shake with ice and then strain into ice-filled glass

Comment: An extremely drinkable cocktail with a hint of honey

BLESMA
Aims to ensure no limbless service personnel or their immediate dependants shall needlessly suffer additonal anxiety or hardship. Over two thousand surviving Ex-Servicemen and women have lost or lost the use of one or more limbs as a result of service in World War II, Korea, Suez, Aden, The Falkands, The Gulf, Northern Ireland and in support of the United Nations. The Association's Welfare Service has 36 Branches throught the UK, all manned by individuals who give their services voluntarily. They provide a counselling and caring service and help in everday problems.

Combat Stress
Exists to help the Ex-Servicemen and women of all ranks from the Armed Forces and the Merchant Navy who are suffering from psychological disability as a result of their service. Combat Stress a a national network of welfare officers who visit veterans at home in order to establish how best to improve their quality of life. Three treatment centres across the UK provide rehabilitation to help victims cope with their disabilities. In over 80 years of operation, the Society has provided some 75,000 veterans with a unique lifeline. The society currently takes about 700 veterans onto its books every year, the youngest in their 20's, the oldest in their 90's.

Headley Court
The DRMC Headley Court is situated near Epsom in Surrey, UK. Since 1996 it has been a Tri-Service rehabilitation centre. It provides an impatient care facility to injured service personnel from all service disciplines. Many have been injured while serving in Iraq or Afghanistan. At Headley Court, 200 staff care for patients with both physical and neurological injuries. Other facilities offered to patients include a prosthetics department, occupational and speech therapists and social work support.

St Dunstan's - Blind Ex-Servicemen
Provide crucial assistance to Ex-Servicemen and women with very significant loss of sight. Through specialist training and support they help them regain their independence and optimism and to make the most of the opportunities available to them. They also offer support and advice to the familites of St Dunstaners. Servies offered include teaching new skills, sorting out housing issues, helping with benefit claims and providing a thriving sporting and social network.

Veterans' Aid

Is the leading charity for homelessness amongst veterans in the UK. Regardless of length of service, Veterans' Aid exists to help ex-service personnel who are or are likely to become homeless. The charity gives direct and immediate help to vulnerable Veterans by providing Hostel accommodation, financial assistance, meal vouchers and clothing, advice and advocacy. It has a drop-in advice centre and a hostel in London, as well as 18 low cost retirement flats in East Sussex.
