1 RHA Chefs pip 2 Royal Welsh Chefs in BFBS Op Telic 10 Cook Off
1 RHA wok'd off with the honours in the BFBS Op Telic 10 'Cook Off' held between themselves and 2 Royal Welsh and the Irish Guards.

All three units put on a brilliant display of what can be achieved out in theatre by Operational Chefs with limited resources. The judges, Chris Pratt and Neil Knowles, Paul Wright and Prem Gurung awarded points for a number of categories including friendliness of the chefs and the most senior person in the unit to come and say hello! There was 11 categories in all and it was a close thing between 2 Royal Welsh and 1 RHA. The food by all three units taking part was excellent and fun was one of the major elements which was provided in buckets by all concerned. A special award for the most outstanding Chef in Op Telic 10 went to LCpl Chris 'Bungle' Elshaw of 2 Royal Welsh.

Neil Knowles with 1 RHA Chefs - Lcpl Paul 'Monkey' Allen, Pvt Gaz Swann, LCpl Michael 'Turkish' Duce and LCpl Princess Mutea.

'Basrah City Rollers' rock the COB!
Just about to leave theatre at the end of Op Telic 10, 5 members of 158 Provo Coy RMP, put on a live music gig at the Mirage - ECHOS at the new COB welfare village.

The guys started from scratch with no equipment whatsoever and wrote off to some music equipment manufacturers and received a number of guitars, drum sets, amplifiers and a PA system. So after some rehearsals the guys put on their one and only gig at the COB. The event was held to raise money for the Help for Heroes fund with a raffle held to win a brand new guitar and an electronic drum kit which raised around $1500. It was a sell out crowd for venue who enjoyed it so much that the guys did an encore which was a repeat of the first set. Well done guys a great night that was well appreciated at the COB!

10@10-

We Can Eat! – How Good is That?

10 @ 10 cake

Hows that for an edible record player?

1 Scots Catering Dept know how to get to the top of the 10 @ 10 waiting list. They made a cake to look like a record player, iced their top 10 records on it and then left it with us to eat at our leisure – now that seems like a fair swap.

This one really stands out!

TEN @ TEN

Now that's one way to jump the queue to get your 10 @ 10 played on BFBS in the Middle East. The lads of Packs Platoon put their selection on the back of this low loader. The lads are about to leave theatre after a gruelling 6 month tour, during which the Packs Lads gained a reputation for fixing/repairing 'nearly' everything thrown at them. In the picture are Jim Crinnion, Ricky Bateman, Chris O'Neil, John Greensmith, Ricky Waterhouse along with BFBS Station Manager Aidan Donovan who presents the 10 @ 10 every weekday morning from 10:10 in the Middle East.

UK Log Bn Shaibah 1/2 Marathon

They're Off! The Start Of The Shaibah 1/2 Marathon

The Start Of The UK Log Battalion's Shaibah Half Marathon

Perhaps one of the most successful fund raising events of Op. Telic 8 must have been the UK Log Battalion's Shaibah Half Marathon that took place on Sunday 15th October. Well over 500 competitors ran, walked and hobbled their way around the 13 mile course in the desert of Iraq.

The event raised a whopping US $6000 for BLESMA, the British Limbless Ex-Service Men's / Women's Association (www.blesma.org) and the Army Benevolent Fund (www.armybenfund.org).(SSVC/BFBS is not responsible for the content of external sites).

QDG LAD Charity Auction

Cpl Tommo Thompson With His Prized Man Utd FootballThe Light Aid Detachment of the Queen's Dragoon Guards (or the QDG LAD as they prefer to be known) recently auctioned a Man Utd Football signed by the whole of the 2005/2006 team squad. The bidding got off to a brisk start with the culmination being a live "On Air" charity auction of the ball. It got very fast and very furious towards the end with the final "Winning" bid by Cpl "Tommo" Thompson (A Chef With The QDGs) snapping the ball up for a magnificent US $1450. The auction was held in aid of, and all proceeds go to St. Dunstans, a charity for Ex-Servicemen / Women blinded on operations. To see what they do check their website "www.st-dunstans.org.uk", (SSVC/BFBS is not responsible for the content of external sites).

UK Log Bn Talent Night

As a "Thank You" for a job well done on Op. Telic 8, the Officers, Warrant Officers and Senior NCOs (The Adults) put on a "Talent Night" to entertain the Boys and Girls (The Workers) of the UK Log Bn in Shaibah.

The night consisted of a rich and varied tapestry of entertainment designed (We think) to demonstrate that "The Adults" are just as mad as "The Toms." From "The Half Monty", A YMCA Tribute, Eaves dropping on a Psychiatrist, a 'Commando' Knife Throwing Act and even the "Shaibah X Factor" - the UK Log Bn "Seniors" proved that not only does the Battalion work hard but it's also pretty good at playing hard too.

Unfortunately no professional "Entertainment" deals were signed that night but everyone more than enjoyed themselves.
