Dave Windsor

A self-confessed (and certified – ed.) radio anorak, Dave was inspired to become a DJ by the pirates of offshore radio in the sixties: Caroline, London, City… legendary stations that established music radio and eventually became part of the mainstream. Dave was a ‘pirate’ himself, on Southern Radio, and also worked for ABC and Sunshine Radio in Ireland, Radio Wyvern and Riviera Radio, where his boss was none other than Richard Astbury, who recommended him to BFBS.

“The pirate stations’ biggest attraction was that they sounded fresh and exciting”, says Dave. That’s the spirit that keeps BFBS Gold sounding great today. The songs might remind you of yesteryear, but it’s presented with a verve that can only come from a presenter with a genuine love of music – and music radio.

Dave took over BFBS Gold from Tony Blackburn in 1990. Since then, his name has become synonymous with classic music from the sixties to the eighties. His record collection is probably bigger than yours…
