Damian Watson

Damian boasts a Forces family background, an encyclopaedic knowledge of music and an ability to speak reasonably joined-up English. With these attributes under his belt, he set off on, what seemed to him, a logical career path. However, once Manchester United had turned him down for the third time, he figured he’d better join BFBS.

Fifteen years on, Damian is the BFBS Radio Group Programme Director, based in the UK. He’s ‘done’ Brunei and the Falkland Islands (twice each), Germany, Hong Kong, Bosnia and Iraq, with several stints at BFBS UK in between. His most recent overseas posting was to the South Atlantic, where he co-ordinated BFBS’s coverage of the 25th anniversary of the Falklands War. (Photo shows Damian at Grytviken, South Georgia.)

In addition to supporting the Mighty Reds, Damian is a founding member of the It Bites Appreciation Society (“isn’t everyone?”) and reads the Lord Of The Rings annually. He even hopes to finish it one day. By the way, Damian doesn’t draw the line at just talking about music; he plays drums and bass guitar on the new album by Barketta.
