Luisse Shaw

(“Did Sue Barker play tennis?”)
Luisse joined BFBS in October 2003, having spent eight and a half years in commercial radio (no, she’s not that old - she got into it at the age of fifteen). She hails from the Garden of England, and, chavs aside, is proud of her Kentish roots, but considers Leeds her second home, after five very happy years there. Music is her biggest passion and she loves travelling, partying and meeting new people – probably why she likes her job so much!

During her BFBS career Luisse has enjoyed all kinds of exciting adventures, including a helicopter Donut Drop to troops in South Armagh, a Bridget Jones-style waterskiing attempt in Cyprus, a trip in a medium-wheeled tractor (which she managed to stall - even though it’s automatic), a flight in the jumpseat of a Chinook and some seriously wild nights at the Mountain sites of West Falkland (she’s looking forward to writing a book about them… when she has a spare year and ten thousand pages).

Luisse has picked up a few nicknames, coined from her scatty habits and the uncanny way in which she’s funny when she doesn’t mean to be. Her favourites are: Shaw the Destroyer (“I didn’t touch anything, honest!”); One-Handed Lu (something to do with sandwiches and a bikini) and, most commonly, Lightning Lu (see above comment from an Akrotiri quiz evening on Sue Barker…)
