After
taking part in a local 'Search for a Star' competition Neil's first job
was with 96.4FM BRMB in Birmingham. He eventually came to BFBS via the
GWR Group (Q103/Chiltern FM/2-Ten and Classic Gold Network), Fox FM and
Galaxy.
Even though most of Neil's life is filled with early mornings, watching
cult television and re-runs of 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' he also likes
to travel. In 2004 Neil visited the States to pick up an award for his
Breakfast show in Germany at the New York Radio Festivals, the highlight
of his career to date, he was then posted to the Mediterranean. Whilst
at BFBS Cyprus, amongst other things he took time out to interview members
of RAF Akrotiri's Sub-Aqua Club, they afterwards convinced him to have
a go. Neil is now a BSAC Advanced Diver & BSAC, PADI and IAHD instructor
and TDI Advanced Trimix diver, for which he's qualified to dive to 100m,
he's already done it, trust me that's a long way down.
Over the last 6 years Neil has had the chance to visit the UK, Gibraltar,
Germany, Kosovo (twice), Kuwait, Iraq (3 times), Vienna, Ireland, Cyprus,
Egypt, New York, Rome, Macedonia, Belize (twice) and probably a few other
places he may have forgotten. He has now joined the team at BFBS Canada
and has already escaped into Montana (to buy a vacuum cleaner! Best not
to ask...).
His latest sporting challenge is playing Ice Hockey for the Batus Hockey
Leagues' Black Oilers. He's also continuing to teach diving and hopes
to check out the local Ice Diving and ski-ing resorts later this year.
