Patrick Lunt

Broadcasting has been a large part of Patrick’s life since 1973, when he crept into the BFBS studios in Cologne while nobody was looking.

He spent several years in Germany learning how to “do” radio. Just when it was beginning to make sense, management sent him to BFBS television, which had recently arrived.

Since then, Patrick has been on BBC Radio 2 for twenty-five years, as a newsreader, announcer and programme presenter – particularly at night, when his rich dark brown voice has a soporific effect on those who find it hard to sleep!

During that time, Patrick has continued his habit of sneaking into BFBS studios when nobody is looking.

He has also undertaken a wide range of other vocal engagements: he has presented the Laurence Olivier Awards on BBC1, and was the voice of programme trailers on BBC Television. He regularly appears un-named as a voice-over artist on adverts, training programmes, and he narrated the documentary series "Extreme Machines" and "Raging Planet" for the Discovery Channel. He even finds time for after-dinner speaking.

Are there time for hobbies and interests? Of course! Hot air ballooning, motorcycling, singing, puns, crosswords, posh cooking and drinking the odd pint…
