Richard Allinson

Richard Allinson's Late Show (not to mention his Saturday afternoon session) on Britain's most popular station, BBC Radio 2, is heard by millions of music-loving Brits every week. Prior to joining the BBC, Richard worked for Capital Radio in London and VH-1 on satellite TV. Quite simply, he's at the top of his game so, frankly, we thought we'd borrow him and his BFBS Radio 2 show is fast-becoming essential listening for music connoisseurs among the British Forces overseas

Richard isn't exactly new to BFBS, of course. In fact, he's been presenting shows for us since the 1980s - Most Wanted, BFBS UK and more – but the switch to BFBS Radio 2 in 2003 meant a change in style. “With Most Wanted on BFBS Radio, I spent years focusing on new music with a harder edge”, says Richard, “but I'm now able to showcase more of the ‘adult' music on BFBS that I'm playing on the Beeb”.

That means new stuff from the likes of Coldplay, The Coral, The Thrills, Travis and Dido, but it also means album tracks and classics from Steely Dan, Joan Armatrading, Jackson Browne, James Taylor, David Bowie, Pink Floyd… You get the idea. “Basically, we focus on tunes, musicianship, and class”, Richard says.

If that isn't enough to whet your musical appetite, would a special guest or two do the trick? Hope so, because due to the unique relationship between BFBS and the BBC, Richard brings his special guests across to his BFBS Radio 2 show. As recent visitors have included David Bowie, Tori Amos, Jim Kerr, Rick Wakeman and Bill Wyman, you can look forward to some huge names appearing on your radio in coming weeks.
