Frequently Asked Questions - Cyprus
So what will Multi-Channel BFBS TV mean to you?
Here are some of the most frequently asked questions:
What channels will I receive?
How much will it cost me?
Nothing – it’s free* to everyone living in MoD provided accommodation. Multi-Channel BFBS TV, provided
by SSVC, largely funded by the MoD, will provide
you with six television channels and up to ten BFBS Radio channels
absolutely free of charge.
* If you live in privately hired or owned accommodation you will need to arrange and pay for the installation of the satellite dish yourself. Separate arrangements exist for clubs etc. Please see the private accommodation details.
How do I get Multi-Channel BFBS TV?
Installation will be undertaken following a timetable agreed with the local Command. You will be notified when installation will take place in
your location.
How long will it take before I get
DTH?
Starting in February 2006, all installations are expected to be completed by April 2007.
What does the installation entail?
An engineer will visit at an agreed time and carry out a
quick, simple installation process. After that it’s simply
a matter of plugging a set-top-box (STB) into the wall socket
and connecting it to your TV.
How do I get the set top box?
When your installation has been completed please go to your local Exchange shop, or your QM for singlies, to pick up your set top box. It comes with full instructions on how to plug it in and set it up.
Will I need a viewing card? If so,
how do I get one?
BFBS TV programmes are encrypted and cannot be watched without a viewing card. Cards are obtained from BFBS DTH offices located in Dhekelia, Episkopi, Akrotiri and at Ayios Nikolaos against a valid service ID, but only after your installation has been completed. Please be aware that it can take up to the end of the next working day for your viewing card to be activated.
What happens if I currently subscribe
to a satellite provider? Will DTH replace this?
No, the two systems can exist together, but DTH Multi-Channel
BFBS TV is free!
Is it planned to increase the number
of channels?
At the moment we have capacity for six channels. Should this increase
in the future and the necessary funding be made available, BFBS
would like to provide a children’s
channel during the day and early evening becoming a documentary channel in the evenings. A movie channel would also be a priority.
Why is BFBS2 not available 24 hours
a day?
BFBS2 contains some programmes that are not suitable for family
viewing and therefore, in non-operational areas, BFBS2 is only
on in the evenings in order to comply with Ofcom regulations.
Do I take the STB with me when I move?
No. Both the box and the card are the
property of SSVC / MoD. You must follow instructions for their return
when you leave your accommodation.
