6
BFBS TV channels - FREE!
Roll
out of multi-channel TV to Germany
Thanks
to SSVC and MoD, Hohne and Paderborn Garrisons are now receiving
not one but six TV channels absolutely free provided by SSVC’s
broadcasting arm, BFBS.
The DTH (Direct-To-Home) project - giving viewers two BFBS channels,
Sky Sports One and Two, Sky News and non-stop music channel, Q - is rolling out across BFG according to a priority list
advised by UKSC(G) G1.
In a massive operation SSOs, Estate Wardens and unit QMs have
co-operated with SSVC to simultaneously roll-out DTH new improved
and free TV service to both single soldiers’ accommodation
and family quarters across the Garrisons. Hohne (including Celle
and Fallingbostel) and Paderborn (including Hameln and Rinteln)
are now getting the new service.
Guttersloh
Garrison (including Herford and Beilefeld) is well underway.
Initial reactions to the service have been favourable. For many,
especially those who had been relying on terrestrial reception
in areas with lots of trees, the new DTH has improved the signal
quality and allowed for clear BFBS reception for the first time,
especially in some areas of Celle.
A unique feature for families at home is the ability to tune into
BFBS radio stations broadcasting in the Middle East, Balkans,
Northern Ireland and others to hear what their partners serving
in those theatres are hearing.
SSVC already has plans to add to the service and would like to
include a day-time children’s channel with documentaries
and drama in the evenings supplemented by a BFBS movie channel.
