Frequently Asked Questions
So what will Multi-Channel BFBS TV mean to you?
Here are some of the most frequently asked questions:
What channels will I get?
How much will it cost me?
Nothing – it’s free. Multi-Channel BFBS TV, provided
by SSVC and funded by the MoD and SSVC themselves, will provide
you with six television channels and up to ten BFBS Radio channels
absolutely free.
How do I get Multi-Channel BFBS TV?
You will be notified when installation will be taking place in
your area and provided, at that time, with instructions on how
to get your set-top-box and viewing card.
How long will it take before I get
DTH?
Installation is due to begin in February 2006 and is anticipated
it’ll be completed within 12 months.
What does the installation entail?
An engineer will visit at a pre-notified time and carry out a
quick, simple installation process. After that it’s simply
a matter of plugging a set-top-box (STB) into the wall socket
and connecting it to your TV following the instructions provided
with the box.
How do I get the set top box?
When installation to your quarter is complete you will be able
to collect your STB from the local distributor. You will receive
notice of when you should collect.
Will I need a viewing card? If so,
how do I get one?
If you have a cable system you will not need a viewing card. Satellite
users, however, will need a viewing card and these will be issued
from your local SSVC shop. Again, you will be notified of their
locations once installation begins in your area.
What happens if I currently subscribe
to a satellite or cable TV provider? Will DTH replace this?
No, the two systems can exist together, but DTH Multi-Channel
BFBS TV is free!
Is it planned to increase the number
of channels?
At the moment we have capacity for six channels. Should this increase
in the future and the necessary funding be made available, BFBS
would like to provide two more channels: a daytime children’s
channel which would become a documentary channel in the evenings;
and a movie channel.
Why is BFBS2 not available 24 hours
a day?
BFBS2 contains some programmes that are not suitable for family
viewing and therefore, in non-operational areas, BFBS2 is only
on in the evenings in order to comply with Ofcom regulations.
Do I take the STB with me when I move?
No the STBs and the viewing cards for satellite systems are the
property of SSVC. You must follow instructions for their return
when you leave your accommodation.
