BFBS Reports in Germany

Martha Fairlie
Martha Fairlie joined the BFBS Reports team in Germany at the beginning of 2004 and is based in our Herford offices.

Reporting on the British forces is a far cry from her previous job - she joined BFBS direct from BBC Scotland, where she worked as a journalist for 6 years - the last three as the Scottish Education Correspondent.

In her first year with BFBS TV, Martha's clocked up the air miles reporting from Canada, Gibraltar and Iraq, and she's covered almost every angle of army life.  Reporting on the Staff Sergeant who completed his BFT by running backwards, and 'test-driving' a tandem parachute jump from 14,000 feet.

Martha took an early interest in broadcasting, reading her first radio news bulletin at the age of 16!  She began her career as a broadcast journalist in 1993, working as a cub radio reporter for Radio Tay in Dundee and then Radio Forth in Edinburgh.  She's also been a TV reporter for Reporting Scotland and BBC News 24, as well as the producer of a half-hour nightly news and current affairs programme.

Annie Haresign
Annie Haresign is a familiar face on her home turf of Hohne Garrison.

That's where she started as a Radio reporter almost ten years ago!  Now our most notherly broadcaster files and films her stories from every corner of the globe.

Over the years, Annie has made it her business to be an integral part of 7th Armoured Brigade.  Wherever the 'Desert Rats' happen to be on exercise or operations, Annie goes too, to the extent that she followed the soldiers to Iraq as BFBS TV's first embedded war correspondent!

But when she's not looking after her two cameramen, Annie will usually be found with her other charges, four polo ponies (Mimi, Ruby, Poppy and Pumpkin) and two dogs (George and Jeremy).  Sadly the rabbit died of old age!

Rob Olver
Rheindahlen-based Rob Olver is BFBS's most experienced TV reporter now clocking up 14 years man and boy with BFBS Reports and its predecessor Scene Here.

Rob began his television career as a Continuity Announcer and went on to compile a weekly Press Review for Scene Here when it was broadcast from Germany.

He cut his reporting teeth during the Gulf War when he flew to the Middle East to report on the build up to and then the aftermath of Operation Desert Storm. Since then, Rob's travelled the world from Alaska to Afghanistan in search of forces features and stories as well as being a familiar figure in his own back yard at JHQ. Rob is BFBS TV's only full-time Video-Journalist - he achieves that very difficult balancing act of asking the questions while simultaneously operating the camera!
